You may also need to enable the magnetometer, but once enabled the flight controller software should automatically pick up the compass. If it arms on switch, it arms, so I'm guessing you're struggling with stick arming? As it arms, but not with sticks, I'd consider raising "min_check" and checking radio trims to make sure you're getting beyond the lowest values for arming.
